Ill live and die by AmiAmi and DHL but i was spending like $300-400 CAD a month in shipping alone buying from them. Since I started using Amazon JP I spend a fraction of that AND i dont have to worry because they have better customs rates. What i get from there costs less money that it does from AmiAmi before customs are even factored in for them.

Generally prices are around the same. For instance I bought the Racing Miku 2010 PUP from Amiami a bit ago, it cost ¥1390 to ship small packet, and on mandarake it's listed as ¥1730 for the same option. I also don't think mandarake charges GST separately, it's just included in the base shipping price.
