Ram 2500 stuck in 4th gear

2010 Dodge Ram 2500. Asked by Visitor in Westminster, SC on October 19, 2018. Stopped at drive thru and cut off truck to hear (diesel ) when restarted motor and put into drive , showed transmission in 4th gear. cut engine off , waited a few minutes and restarted went back to drive all back to normal but engine light remains on.

while you have it down go ahead and check the tower seals. the solonoid pack bolts to the valve body. just unbolt it and bolt in the new one, the new one may not come with the same color connector, will be white or grey, but no worries here. bolt it all back up, clear your codes and drive. the 4 is the limp mode.Easy to fix, just take the top of the trans off from inside the cab and check it out, easy to see if it's trying to go into two gears at the same time. So if you use a 2011+ solenoid (or trans) in a 2007-2010 truck, you will blow continual P0760 (OD Solenoid Circuit) faults, since in the newer solenoid module there IS NO OD SOLENOID. So that would be my first suspicion. The 2011+ solenoid module has a GRAY wiring connector. The 2007-2010 style solenoid has a WHITE wiring connector.Start the truck in neutral, and pull the shifter straight down to 1st gear.
